Through a series of further acquisitions between 2012-2014, the Heart network expanded into more geographic regions. The regional Heart stations in Gloucestershire, Kent, London, the West Midlands, the East Midlands, and Wiltshire were left unchanged. Heart converted many of their smaller stations in line with these changes and the new guidelines on local output. However, new guidelines set out by OFCOM meant that Heart FM had to condense the number of stations they controlled. Over a 15-year span, the Heart network had acquired and developed 41 different stations. A few contemporary “feel good” tracks including songs from artists such as Lionel Richie, Tina Turner, and Whitney Houston, were also included. The soft adult contemporary music replaced a generally more neutral rock “n” roll playlist. Revamped ProgrammingĪfter Heart launched in London in August 1995, their radio shows took on a slightly different format. Millions of daily listeners joined Heart for the soft adult contemporary music, and in 1995 Heart FM started test transmissions in London, using frequency 106.2.
