I’m not sure why he would drop by just to tell them that, but it works out nicely, because he can enjoy an afternoon with the boys in this tournament, and if he wins he can use the purse to go on a vacation with Bulma’s family. So why is Future Trunks still here? Wouldn’t he have gone back to his own alternate future? Well, Bulma explains that he did, and now he’s come back to inform everyone that he beat Androids 17 and 18 in his timeline. I think this is the first time Krillin openly expresses confidence that he could kick Tien’s ass if he had to. Yamcha and Tien are also there, but Krillin wasn’t as worried about them. So, starting out, Krillin likes his odds, until he notices Gohan, Trunks, and Piccolo competing on the other stages. You lose when you fall off the stage, and the last man standing on each stage goes on to compete in the next round. There’s a few rough spots, but not the blatant discontinuities we’ve seen in the previous films.īeyond that, this tournament bears some resemblance to the layout of the later tournaments we’ve seen in the franchise, where the winner earns a bout with Mr. Goku’s dead when he’s supposed to be dead, the other characters are alive when they’re supposed to be alive, and this movie isn’t taking place during some other crisis in the anime. Thanks to the seven year gap between the Cell Games and the rest of the series, Movie 9 actually fits reasonably well in the main continuity. My guess here is that the kid saw the Cell Games on TV, told his dad he wanted more of that, and he has the money and free time to make that happen. Here’s the deal: The “richest man in the world”, Gyosan Money, is staging an enormous martial arts tournament as a birthday present for his son. Did you know you can’t make bald women in the Xenoverse games? It’s bullshit.Īnyway, do you like these four characters? Well, too bad, because they’ll never be seen again. Let me make a fat woman with pointy ears, dammit. If Bandai-Namco is reading this, I’d like to point out that this is what I want to be able to do in Xenoverse 3. They look like someone went in the “Create-a-wrestler” feature in a WWE game and hit “randomize”, and it’s pretty awesome. Okay, so to start us off, these four “alien warriors” disembark from a spaceship. Like that automatically makes a DBZ movie better. They say Movie 9 is better than Movie 8, simply because this one’s not a Broly movie. Movie 9 is sandwiched in the middle of the Broly Trilogy, and I feel like people forget about it because of that, and more importantly, I feel like people forget its flaws. People love to say how Broly’s a bad character, because he’s a big muscle-bound brute who barely talks, and he has “no personality.” Well even if you agree with that, it goes triple for Bojack. I often use Bojack whenever I’m defending Broly. There’s some really cool visuals and character designs, but Bojack is a really weak villain, and large chunks of the plot have absolutely nothing to do with him. “Dragon Ball Z: The Galaxy’s at the Brink!! The Super Incredible Guy.” I don’t want to critique the Japanese titles too harshly, but if you swapped the titles for Movies 8 and 9, would it really matter? Funimation may have been a little on the nose in naming the movies after the villain, but at least you can tell them apart.
